During the month of June, nearly 80 high school students from Fresno Unified School District convened at Fresno State for the annual Sports Science Camp, hosted by the Central California Sports Science Institute. The week-long camp focuses on giving an in-depth view into the different career options that exist within the health field, particularly in the area of Kinesiology. Through interactive activities and hands-on learning, the FUSD students learned about the four degree options within the Department of Kinesiology, including athletic training, physical education, sport psychology and exercise science. Each session was taught and facilitated by Fresno State students majoring in Kinesiology.
This is the third year the Sports Science Institute Camp has occurred on campus. Dr. Luke Pryor, assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, leads the annual camp and says the results have been positive.
“Results have shown that of all the FUSD students who participate, 70 percent have more interest in attending Fresno State for higher education and of that number, 80 percent of them have more interest in majoring in Kinesiology.”
