Minith Real, a physical education teacher at Gaston Middle School, recently received the Middle School Educator of Year award from the Fresno Unified School District  Excellence in Education Awards. Real, an alumnus of Fresno State, received his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology on 2007 with an option in Physical Education.

He was among the 45 finalists from throughout Fresno Unified nominated by their peers for showcasing exemplary work with students and the district.

Each of the winners has a passion for their job and truly care for the students and families in our district, said Fresno Unified Superintendent, Bob Nelson.

As a physical educator, Real encompasses the elements of exercise, motivation and positive affirmation into this daily lesson plans and says the relationship he forms with his students, both on an academic and personal level, makes the classroom experience even better.

“Teaching is probably one of the most important professions around,” said Real. “You have the chance to influence the future. Our kids are the future and that’s how I look at what I do. It’s not about me – it’s about the kids and our future.”

Real will move on to the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools Educator of the Year Awards in November.
