Preterm birth affects 1,500 babies every year in Fresno County. In West Fresno, preterm birth is most prevalent among women of color, particularly those residing in the 93706 zip code.
ValleyPBS recently focused on the preterm birth epidemic for their series “Chasing the Dream: Poverty and Opportunity in America – 93706” which takes a deeper looks at the challenges faced by residents within that zip code.
The Fresno County Preterm Birth Initiative, a 10-year initiative to reduce the number of babies born prematurely in Fresno County, launched their Parent’s Council last year with the goal of providing parents in southwest Fresno the opportunity to connect with others who’ve experienced preterm birth.
