The Senior Awareness Fall Education (S.A.F.E.) Central Valley Coalition at Fresno State will hold its annual Falls Prevention Awareness Dinner Fundraiser from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at the Elbow Room in Fresno (731 W. San Jose). The fundraiser will give community members an opportunity to learn about S.A.F.E. and the programs and services it offers to older adults, such as free balance screenings and assessments, FallProof classes, educational materials, community classes and presentations. Tickets are $50, which includes dinner and dessert prepared by the Elbow Room. Proceeds from the event will directly support fall prevention efforts in the San Joaquin Valley. RSVP online by Sept. 14 or by contacting 559.572.7755 or emailing  safecvc@mail.fresnostate.edu.

S.A.F.E. will hold its annual free balance screenings to older adults on Sept. 14, 19 and Nov. 2. All dates are currently booked, but a waitlist is available by contacting 278.7539. Each semester, students from Physical Therapy, Nursing and Kinesiology, as well as Pharmacy students from California Health Sciences University, come together as an interdisciplinary health care team to assess the strength, balance and risk of falls for seniors, 65 and older. Learn more about these screenings here and here.
