A total of 13 Recreation Administration students were recognized recently by the California Park & Recreation Society (District 7) for their contributions and service to the region. Each of the students, who represent each of the Department of Recreation Administration’s five emphasis areas, received the Community Service Award – contributing over 200 service hours. One student, Lisbeth Martinez, received the Outstanding Student Scholarship award. Congratulations to each of these bold bulldogs!

Students who received the Community Service Award include:
Lisbeth Martinez (Community Recreation and Youth Services) – Lisbeth has completed a total of 1212 volunteer hours at such agencies as the City of Kingsburg and the American English Institute. At The City of Kingsburg she planned events and activities for children. While at the American English Institute, Lisbeth helped students understand their course material and planned recreational activities.
Kassandra Torres (Community Recreation and Youth Services) – Kassandra has completed a total of 939 volunteer hours at such agencies as the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Swim America Family Swim School, Inc. While volunteering at the Make-A-Wish Foundation in central California, Kassandra put together baskets and helped with events. Kassandra was a camp counselor at Swim America and was in charge of supervising children and organizing games.
Alejandro Del Toro (Community Recreation and Youth Services) – Alejandro has completed a total of 3267 volunteer hours at such agencies as Fresno City Parks & Recreation and After School Education and Safety (ASES). Alejandro was the service aid for Fresno City Parks & Recreation and worked in various programs for the city.
Zachary Blake (Adventure Recreation and Tourism) – Zachary has completed a total of 1552 volunteer hours at such agencies as Riverway Ranch Camp and MetalMark Climbing + Fitness. While at Riverway, he was the general counselor and was in charge of watching children. At MetalMark he worked the front desk and was the clinic instructor.
Daniel Foster (Adventure Recreation and Tourism) – Daniel has completed a total of 2523 volunteer hours at such agencies as Ridge Creek Dinuba Golf Club and the American English Institute. At Ridge Creek he was the golf pro shop attendant and was in charge checking golfers into the club and facilitating with arrivals.
Troy Kellenberger (Adventure Recreation and Tourism) – Troy has completed a total of 2094 volunteer hours at such agencies as the EDGE Ropes Course and the USDA Forest Service. Being the course facilitator at the Ropes Course, Troy helped set up, break down, and also assist on the course. While interning at the Sierra National Forest, he was in charge of campsite restoration and documenting government reports.
Valerie Ramirez (Adventure Recreation and Tourism) – Valerie has completed a total of 1002 volunteer hours at such agencies as Camp Kesem and Gymnastics Beat Inc. At Camp Kesem she was in charge of fundraising and programming to put the camp together. Being a gymnastics coach at Gymnastics Beat, Valerie helped put together company and birthday parties.
Cora Cha (Commercial Recreation and event Planning) – Cora has completed a total of 732 volunteer hours at such agencies as Vintage Days and Fresno State Talks. As the special event coordinator for Vintage Days, she created and planned the first college night dance for Fresno State students. While volunteering for Fresno State Talks, Cora planned three lectures that recognized professors on campus.
Jesus Luviano (Commercial Recreation and Event Planning) – Jesus has completed a total of 3960 volunteer hours at such agencies as California Teaching Fellows Foundation. He performed tasks such as preparing budgets, conducting staff meetings, and assisting in the agency’s public promotions.
Angela Rozum (Therapeutic Recreation) – Angela has completed a total of 959 volunteer hours at such agencies as Camp Adventure Child & Youth Services and Quail Park Retirement Home. At Camp Adventure she was an aquatics instructor that taught swim lessons to military personnel and their children. While Angela volunteered at Quail Park, she assisted the activities coordinator by setting up special events for the residents.
Scott Staton (Therapeutic Recreation) – Scott has completed a total of 769 volunteer hours at such agencies as VA Fresno and the American English Institute. While at VA Fresno, he implemented programs and provided counseling. At the American English Institute, Scott facilitated activities.
Kelly Yang (Therapeutic Recreation) – Kelly has completed a total of 824 volunteer hours at such agencies as Holdsambeck and Associates Inc. and the Boys and Girls Club of Fresno County. She was in charge of implementing programs at Holdsambeck and Associates. While volunteering at the Boys and Girls Club, Kelly lead the youth leadership group and coordinated special events.
District 7 includes a region that spans from as far south as Chowchilla all the way up to Porterville. The mission of CPRS is to advance the park and recreation profession through education, networking, resources and advocacy.
