Did you know that March is National Social Work Month? To honor social workers right here in the Central Valley, the Department of Social Work Education will be hosting their second annual Legacy Dinner on March 20th at TorNino’s Banquets. This great event will bring together alumni, current and former faculty, friends and student ambassadors to celebrate the contributions the department and its graduates have made in the Central Valley for over 62 years.
Dr. Virginia Rondero Hernandez, department chair and professor, and Maggie Armistead, lecturer in the department, recently appeared on KSEE 24 News’ Central Valley Today on to discuss the upcoming Legacy Dinner and also talk about the vast profession of social work, which has a predicted job growth of 800,000 by 2020 (according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics).
Three leaders will be honored at the event for their wonderful contributions to the field of social work – Dr. Benjamin Cuellar, Corinne Florez and the late Richard Ford. Both Cuellar and Ford formerly held respective positions as the dean of the College of Health and Human Services. Florez is currently the MSW coordinator of the Title IV-E Public Child Welfare Program at Fresno State.
Tickets are expected to sell out quickly for this memorable event, which is the largest gathering of social workers in the Valley! To make your reservation today, please click HERE or for more information contact the Department of Social Work at 559.278.3992.
