Christi Xiong did not allow diversity or setbacks in life keep her from fulfilling her goals. In fact, it only made her stronger. Now she is pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse, where she is a currently in her second semester as a pre-nursing major here at Fresno State.
Christi joined Fresno State in Fall 2014, having received a scholarship from Fresno Unified School District. The youngest of 10 children, Christi graduated with high honors as Valedictorian in spring 2014 from Hoover High School.
An event in 2009 would impact her life forever. Her father was diagnosed with Liver Cancer.
“After a life changing event like that, you see life differently from a different perspective and you don’t take anything for granted.”

She credits her father’s strength and perseverance as the driving force in her goal to one day become a nurse. As Christi states in the FUSD scholarship video below, she hopes to be a part of a team that gives families a second chance at life.
“As a nurse, I will help others by educating the southeast Asian community and the Hmong community as well. I will use my education to educate others in embracing western medicine.”
