Congratulations to the Department of Recreation Administration at Fresno State! They have received continuing accreditation for an additional six year for their Recreation Administration and Leisure Studies Program. The accreditation was approved by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professionals (COAPRT) at their October 13th meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Council noted the following commendations:
- Fresno State’s commitment to academic excellence, as evidenced by over 30 years of COAPRT accreditation
- The return of the Therapeutic Recreation degree, after an eight year absence
- The E.D.G.E Challenge Course has been relocated to the main campus and continues to serve as a resource for students and a recruitment tool for valley companies and/or organizations. It also provides added visibility for the department.
This accreditation will remain valid until the fall of 2021. The Department of Recreation Administration is comprised of five areas of study, including Adventure Recreation and Tourism; Commercial Recreation and Event Planning; Community Recreation and Youth Services; Sports and Entertainment Facility Management; and Therapeutic Recreation. The recreation profession is actually the second largest industry in the United States, with graduates of the department leading in a variety of recreation settings, from city and county agencies, to special event companies to rehabilitation facilities, and more.
