Dr. Betty Garcia, professor in the department of social work education, was appointed to the Council on Social Work Education’s (CSWE) Council on Publications, effective July 1st. The work of this council is fundamental in maintaining a high quality publication that represents all of social work education. Members of the council will help to develop and implement policy and procedures that advance the dissemination of resources of social work professional education.
Garcia, who has a long-standing relationship with the CWSE that dates back to the mid-90s said being involved with the council allows for opportunities to contribute to her profession and participate in important decision making in the area of social work education.
Joining the Council on Publications was a seamless decision for Garcia, who is a published author with three books under her belt and one more set to debut next year. “I am pleased to be working on the Council on Publications,” Garcia said. “I’ve discovered that I continue to enjoy writing, and look forward to continuing that creative activity. I’m excited to integrate my passion for writing and my teaching with students in my master’s project/thesis class.”
Garcia will serve a 3-year term, effective through June 2017. Her fourth book, co-authored by Ann Petrovich, is titled “Challenging the Diagnostic Statistical Manual” and will be available in spring 2015.
